Volunteer Vacations

Two Weeks in Transylvania Helping Romanian Orphans

Next trip tentatively scheduled for October 2, 2008 through October 16, 2008

Imagine a vacation where you visit romantic European castles, shop in picturesque medieval towns, and work with orphaned children who are hungry for attention.

The historic city of Sighisoara

Our two-week volunteer vacation takes you to the legendary region of Transylvania, where you will work with orphanages around Brasov, a historic city at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains.

Volunteer teams perform a variety of tasks to help the orphans, delivering donations of food and clothing, assisting with physical and occupational therapy, and taking older children on their first shopping trip. Most importantly, you'll be a friend and playmate for children who have had little attention from adults.

Volunteers need no special skills and do not need to speak Romanian.

During your volunteer vacation, you will enjoy free time to explore Transylvania. Brasov has a variety of shops, markets, museums, restaurants, internet cafes and much more.

Our Romanian hosts also plan day trips for the volunteers. Past groups have visited Sinaia to see the magnificent Peles Castle, to Bran, home of Dracula's Castle, and to Sighisoara, a medieval town surrounded by beautiful hilly countryside.

Our volunteer vacations typically run twice per year, in May and September. Dates vary, so please check with us for current trips.

Volunteers pay one fee of $3,000. Airline tickets, lodging, meals and ground transportation are provided by Hearts Across Romania.
